Born from a project started in 1995 by three friends, Marcel Lapierre, Jean-Claude Chanudet and Joseph Chamonard, who bought old vineyards that were not classified as high as they should’ve been, and brought life to them – working organic practices and incorporating a few biodynamic for good measure. Since the death of legendary Marcel Lapierre in 2010, the estate is now run mostly by his wife, Marie, and Jean-Claude Chanudet and is one of the most renowned in Beaujolais.

Cuvée du Chat is a Beaujolais-Villages, but with the depth and precision of a Morgon. It is a small parcel (2.5 hectare) on granitic soils, that was planted in 1945 and once managed by Jules Chauvet. So 70+ year old vines, producing low-yields with fantastic concentration that are handpicked in October. They undergo Beaujolais-typical carbonic maceration in enamel tanks and then the wine is aged in old foudres with the lees for several months before bottling. It is a fruit bomb with lots of red fruits, a hint of orange peel and a mouth-watering acidity.
