Luca Faccenda was born and raised in Roero, Piemonte and comes from a winemaking family. The winery was established in 2010 and is run by Luca and his wife Carolina, and they are firm believers in organic viticulture and natural methods in the cellar. Luca knows the area well and wants to bring its nuances to the fore, distinguishing it and his wines from nearby Langhe. The land is predominantly steep slopes that are dominated by sands and sea fossils, and there is a salinity and minerality throughout the range of wines. As their natural philosophy indicates, the wines are made without filtration, fining or added sulphur.
This 100% Arneis is from two parcels with slightly different sandy soil composition, and the parcels are treated different by Luca in the cellar. The younger vines on soft sand are picked early and direct pressed into stainless steel for fermentation and ageing; the other parcel has more compact soil and spends 10 days as whole grapes before pressing into old oak. The wines age in these separate vessels for around nine months before blending at bottling. The wine is medium bodied with floral notes, acacia honey, nuttiness, stone fruits and a classic salinity.
