Joan-Ramon Escoda started his winery in Conca de Barberà in 1997, with the dream of creating natural wines with biodynamic farming. Always with biodynamic in his mind, he made the transition to absolutely zero added sulphur in all the wines in 2007. As one would expect he has a large biodiversity in the vineyards, with olive and almond trees mingling among cows, horses and chickens. His love for animals and nature is represented by the animals on the labels. He is using a variety of vessels for his vinification and aging, including oak, steel and clay, to best highlight the individuality of the wines and their terroir.

Nas Del Gegant is a blend that changes vintage to vintage; in 2019 it is 70% Merlot, with 15% Grenache and 15% Sumoll (a local Catalan grape), grown on limestone and clay between 450-600 metres. Hand harvested grapes are destemmed and crushed into concrete tanks for the fermentation, and then the wine is moved to clay amphora for nine months aging. The wine is bottled without fining, filtration or the addition of any added sulphites. It gives plenty of black fruit with sour black cherry and some cassis, balanced with juicy tannins and a savoury edge.
