Established in 1970 by Natalino and Anna Bartolomei, Ciu Ciu is now in the hands of their two sons Massimiliano and Walter. They have a large, organic estate, extending through 130 hectares of vineyards in Offida, nestled between the Apennine mountains and the Adriatic sea in central Italy. Their passion for organic viticulture stems from their philosophy that quality wine is made in the vineyard and not in the cellar. They want the land, and the fruit it provides, to speak for itself, and so they harness “a natural wine-growing ecosystem”.

Bacchus is a 50/50 blend of Sangiovese and Montepulciano coming from DOC Piceno. Fermentation goes for 10 days with daily punch downs, and then the wine is aged 6 months in stainless steel. The result is a medium-bodied red with plenty of red and black cherries, ripe strawberries and some liquorice – it can be served a little chilled and packs a bit of a punch that could stand up to some meat and tomato dishes, as well as being juicy enough to glug down without food.
